Enefit and Forus Takso are partnering to make Estonia’s taxi service more environmentally friendly and accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in the taxi market. Forus drivers can now charge their vehicles at a special rate on Enefit’s public charging network, making the use of electric cars significantly more cost-effective.
Following a decision by the Supervisory Board of Eesti Energia, the Group will continue with a four-member Management Board from the beginning of next year. The business operations will be consolidated into three subsidiaries: Enefit, which will oversee electricity operations; Enefit Industry, responsible for industrial operations; and Elektrilevi, managing the distribution network.
As part of the joint project ‘Charge Two Batteries at Once’, carried out in cooperation between Enefit and Estonian Health Trails, electric vehicle charging points have been installed near the Mammaste, Holstre-Polli, Kõrvemaa Hiking and Ski Centre, Palivere, Kadrina and Alutaguse health trails.

Major shareholder Eesti Energia will launch today a voluntary takeover bid to minority shareholders of Enefit Green in order to return Enefit Green to 100% ownership by Eesti Energia. The voluntary takeover bid will remain open until 12 May 2025, and, if successfully completed, Eesti Energia is expected to pay for the shares on 16 May 2025.

Recently, scammers have started to use a scheme to extort money by introducing themselves as an employee of Eesti Energia or Enefit, claiming that the electricity meter needs to be replaced. While most people hang up when a suspicious caller is asking for PIN codes or sending a courier to collect money, one lady recently fell victim to this scheme by handing over €17,000 to a criminal who came to the door.
Compared to December, Estonia’s average electricity price increased by 9.1% in January, reaching €92.0 per megawatt-hour (9.2 cents per kilowatt-hour). Compared to January last year, when the electricity price was €126.48 per megawatt-hour, this year’s price was 27.2% lower – a decrease of more than €30. The main price drivers were a decrease in wind energy production compared to the previous month, the Estlink 2 electricity connection interruption, and higher consumption due to cold weather and increased heating demand.

Enefit Solutions and H2Electro are developing a prototype of an electrolyser required for hydrogen and synthesis gas production. With the device, the efficiency of hydrogen technology can be tested and the cost price of hydrogen production can be reduced. The project is co-financed by the Estonian Business and Innovation Agency (EIS) from the European Union’s Just Transition Fund.
Eesti Energia has started the configuration of the energy storage facility at the Auvere industrial complex. This battery solution will help maintain the stability of the electricity system following desynchronisation and mitigate price fluctuations caused by the intermittency of non-dispatchable renewable energy production.
Compared with November, the average electricity price in Estonia rose by 2.1% in December to €84.3 per megawatt-hour (MWh), or 8.4 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh). Compared to December last year (€89.0/MWh), the electricity price in 2024 was 5.3% lower and nearly five euros cheaper. The biggest drivers of cheaper prices were cheaper electricity from the Nordic countries and record high wind energy production.
Enefit and Capfield have started cooperating to install a total of 18 new public electric car chargers in the parking lots of six Capfield shopping centres in Tallinn and Pärnu. All the chargers will be 320 kW ultra-fast chargers that can recharge enough energy to cover 100 kilometres in just a few minutes.
Compared to October, the price of electricity in Estonia decreased by 9.6% in November, remaining, on average, at 82.56 euros per megawatt-hour. Compared to November last year, electricity was 21.5% cheaper this year (105.2 euros per megawatt-hour in 2023). Compared to September, the price of electricity in Estonia’s Nord Pool price zone rose by 8.9% in October, reaching 91.37 EUR/MWh. On the morning of 2 October, the electricity price in Estonia fluctuated at 500 EUR/MWh for several hours.

Eesti Energia Group's nine-month sales revenue amounted to 1.3 billion euros and normalised net profit to 191 million euros. In the third quarter, the group generated sales revenue of EUR 388 million and a normalised net loss of EUR 5.6 million. On 9 October, Eesti Energia started providing a manual Frequency Restoration Reserve to the MARI (Manually Activated Reserves Initiative) energy market platform. Enefit and Kehtna rural municipality have signed a 10-year full-service agreement under which the entire existing street lighting network will be upgraded. A total of 1,160 new, modern LED luminaires will be installed across the municipality, operating on an energy-saving dimming schedule.

In the second quarter, the price of electricity in Estonia increased by 2% compared to the previous year. As a result of tests conducted last week, Elering confirmed that Auvere power plant meets the requirements of the European frequency management platform MARI (Manually Activated Reserves Initiative) as a provider of manual Frequency Restoration Reserve (mFRR).
The sales revenues of Eesti Energia Group amounted to EUR 415.1 million, -0.2% year-on-year, in Q2 2024. Reported group EBITDA was EUR 153.5 million (+42.5% year-on-year), while adjusted EBITDA* was at EUR 158.9 million (+37.4%). The Group's reported net profit was at EUR 103.1 million (+141.6% year-on-year), adjusted net profit at EUR 108.5 million (+114.5%).
Eesti Energia’s CFO, Marlen Tamm, explained that the group’s sales revenue remained at the same level as the previous year, and the results were influenced by a significant increase in renewable energy production and, on the other hand, a decrease in electricity production from oil shale. ‘Eesti Energia's focus on low-carbon power generation will enable us to offer more competitively priced electricity to the electricity market and at the same time improve the group’s financial performance,’ said Tamm.
Ülemiste Centre has become an even greener and more convenient stop for electric vehicle owners. The shopping centre’s indoor parking now features seven 50 kW and one 22 kW electric vehicle chargers, while the outdoor parking area includes one 22 kW and one 50 kW charger, which will have its capacity increased to a remarkable 120 kW in the future.
Enefit has opened 46 public charging stations for electric vehicles in the city of Zabrze and surrounding areas in Poland. This represents the largest single deployment of a charging network by Enefit Volt in Poland so far. Located at approximately 24 different sites in and near Zabrze, Enefit Volt chargers offer charging opportunities for a total of 92 electric cars.
In Tallinn, the Ülemiste Centre's indoor car park has started operating with seven 50 kW and one 22 kW electric car chargers from Enefit Volt, as well as one 22 kW and one 50 kW charger in the outdoor car park, with future power increasing to 120 kW. The Energy Discovery Centre, housed in what used to be Tallinn’s first power plant, celebrated its 10th anniversary last month. On the occasion of the anniversary, Enefit installed nearly 69 kW of solar panels on the Energy Discovery Centre’s roof, enabling the centre to produce its own electricity on-site and significantly reduce annual electricity costs.
