Jaotusvõrk holds public procurement for power network maintenance and repair contract

Eesti Energia Jaotusvõrk is organizing an international public procurement to find partners for the next three years for scheduled maintenance and repair work, restoring power in case of outages and, to a lesser extent, for establishing a new power network for the next three years.

The value of the contract is 550 million kroons spread out over three years. Jaotusvõrk director Tarmo Mere said that this price was for the estimated amount of work, but the actual amount will depend on the annual maintenance and repair work plan, number of new connections and amount of power cuts.

"Major parts of the Estonian power network are over 40 years old. As the age of the network has exceeded its useful life, we will have to devote more attention to regular maintenance and repair work in order to maintain the present level of reliability," explained Mere.

Mere added that each year, Eesti Energia Jaotusvõrk maintains and repairs several thousand kilometres of power lines and replaces an average of 500 substations. "The need for maintenance and repair grows each year, as very little was invested into the power network in the 1980s and 1990s," he said.

The public procurement covers five regions and has 15 components. A three-year contract will be awarded to the successful tenderer for each of these 15 parts. Procurement contracts with regional partners will be entered into at the beginning of 2011.

Eesti Energia Jaotusvõrk administers over 60,000 km of lines and 21,000 substations.
