Tarmo Mere becomes new head of the Distribution Grid

27.08.2008

From 1 September, the new head of Estonia’s larges power grid company, OÜ Jaotusvõrk (Distribution Grid), is Tarmo Mere, who to this point was in charge of the company’s financial and network administration areas. Margus Uudam, who was at the helm of the Distribution Grid for four years, left in early August.

According to Margus Rink, member of the management board for Eesti Energia’s retail operations, recruitment centred on finding a manager for Distribution Grid who would continue implementing the existing strategy and objectives, as the Distribution Grid is a well-functioning and properly managed company. Rink says that Mere has clearly been one of the Distribution Grid’s key players and that his strength is first and foremost his superb understanding of the business of network services – i.e. engineering knowledge as well as a good grasp of the functioning of the Distribution Grid as a commercial enterprise and his long experience in leadership positions.

Mere has been employed at the Eesti Energia Group for ten years, of which he spent six months at EE headquarters, 18 months at Narva Power Plants and the last eight years in the Distribution Grid financial management and network administration area. Mere has an engineering degree from the Tallinn University of Technology’s faculty of power engineering and a master’s degree in economics.

The Distribution Grid is Estonia’s largest power grid company, bringing electricity to almost half a million homes and companies. Over three years, the Distribution Grid will be investing 4.8 billion kroons into renewing and upgrading its power grid. The goal is to reduce power outages by half and to improve the quality of electricity and reduce electrical losses. The Distribution Grid service region spans all of Estonia, except for Lääne County, the city of Narva and its vicinity, and Viimsi municipality.
