Small producer

ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION EQUIPMENT WITH NET CAPACITY OF UP TO 1000 KW

A small producer is a power producer who generates electric energy for their company or home with electricity production equipment of a net capacity of up to 1000 kW. Usually, the capacity of the electricity production equipment used at home or by businesses remains below 200 kW. If the capacity of your electricity production equipment exceeds 200 kW, you need to apply for an activity licence for electricity generation from the Estonian Competition Authority.

In order to generate your own energy, you will have to obtain the required electricity production equipment and enter into a network contract and a small producer's connection contract with the network operator. The network operator will install and set up the required meters to measure the amounts of energy taken from the network and led back to the network.

In order to sell the excessive electric energy from generation, you will also need to enter into a small producer's energy contract. The energy contract can only be entered into with the same operator from whom you buy electricity. If you lead your electric energy to the network without an energy contract, the network operator whose network your electricity production equipment is connected to will accept it free of charge.

A small producer's energy contract is only valid with a consumption contract. In the event of termination of the consumption contract with the network operator, the energy contract will automatically expire as well.

Small producer's package

Based on a small producer's energy contract, Eesti Energia guarantees that we will be buying the electricity that you generate and lead to the network in the agreed period and for the agreed price. Eesti Energia buys electric energy from small producers based on the prices of the Nord Pool Spot power market minus the margin laid down in the contract.

The small producer's energy contract of Eesti Energia is based on the Exchange package minus the margin. We also advise small producers to choose the Exchange package for consumption, this way the consumption and generation would be priced based on the same conditions.

Major producer

ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION EQUIPMENT WITH NET CAPACITY OF MORE THAN 1000 KW

A major producer is an electricity producer who generates electricity with an aim to sell it and by using electricity production equipment with the capacity of over 1000 kW. In order to sell electric energy, it is necessary to connect the production equipment to the power network and enter into a network contract with the network operator whose network the equipment is connected to.

In order to connect production equipment with a capacity of less than 5 MW to the power network, please contact your local distribution network operator. In order to connect production equipment with a capacity of more than 5 MW, please contact Elering, the transmission network operator.

In order to sell the generated electric energy to Eesti Energia, you must first enter into a respective contract. Our buying prices depend on the CO2 market price, the amount of electric energy purchased, and the accuracy of estimated amount of electricity to be purchased.

NB! If you lead your electric energy to the network without an energy contract, the network operator whose network your electricity production equipment is connected to will accept it free of charge. In order to enter into contracts for electricity, you must have a valid small producer's network contract. Further information about connecting to the network and entering into a network contract can be obtained from the network operator operating in your area. If the capacity of your production equipment exceeds 200 kW, you must apply for an activity licence for generating electric energy from the Estonian Competition Authority.
