Micro producer

The net capacity of a micro producer's production equipment is up to 11 kW

A micro producer is an electricity producer who mainly produces electricity for their own household or company.

You need to sign contracts with us if you want to sell any excess electricity you produce to Eesti Energia or if you want to buy extra electricity. Both the purchase and sales contracts have to be signed with one single electricity seller. With these contracts we will guarantee that you as a micro producer can sell all your excess electricity and buy extra electricity, even if the amounts are very small.

A valid micro producer's network contract is required before electricity contracts can be signed. You will find information on how to connect to the network and how to sign a network contract from the network operator of your area.

NB! If you supply electricity to the network without a sales contract, the network operator to whose network your electricity generation equipment is connected will receive the electricity for free.

Small producer

The net capacity of a small producer's production equipment is between 11 kW and 1000 kW (1 MW)

A small producer is an electricity producer producing electricity both for their own company or home and for sale. Small producers usually generate renewable energy using wind turbines, solar cells or hydroelectric power plants.

If you wish to sell electricity produced as a small producer to Eesti Energia, you have to sign a small electricity producer's contract. If your company currently buys electricity from another seller, you will have to sign both an electricity sales contract and an electricity purchase contract with Eesti Energia, under which we will sell your company the additional electricity you need. You have to sign both purchase and sales contracts for electricity with the same electricity seller.

In a small electricity producer's contract, Eesti Energia guarantees to buy all the electricity produced and supplied by you to the network during the agreed period and for the agreed price. Eesti Energia purchases electricity from small producers at the prices of the Nord Pool Spot minus the margin agreed in the contract.

Before an electricity purchase or a small electricity producer's contract can be signed, a valid network contract is required, which also allows you to send electricity into the network. If you don't have a network contract, please contact your network operator.

Large producer

The capacity of the production equipment exceeds 1000 kW

A large producer is an electricity producer who produces electricity in order to sell it and has production equipment with a capacity of more than 1000 kW (or 1 MW). Before electricity can be sold, the production equipment has to be connected to the network and a network contract has to be signed with the network operator to whose network the equipment is connected.

To connect production equipment with a capacity of under 10 MW to the power network, contact the distribution network operator in your area. To connect production equipment with a capacity of over 10 MW to the power network, contact the transmission network operator Elering. If the capacity of your production equipment is 100 kW or more, you will need a licence from the Estonian Competition Authority.

To sell electricity to Eesti Energia you need to sign a contract. Our electricity purchase prices depend on the CO2 market price, the amount of electricity purchased and how precise the estimates of the amount of electricity to be purchased were.
