Narva power plants
Enefit Energiatootmine is the largest producer of electrical energy in Estonia and one of the most important power producers in the Baltic region. The company supplies electrical energy to Estonian consumers and heat to the town of Narva, and it exports electricity to the Baltic States and supplies electricity to the Nordic power market through the Estlink undersea cable.
The company also sells the oil shale ash created as a waste product of energy production, as this is a valuable mineral raw material for the construction industry and agriculture. Ash sales »
The environmental management system of Narva power plants conforms to the requirements of the international standard ISO 14001:2004. The electrical, chemical and automatics laboratories of Narvapower plants are accredited in accordance with the requirements of the international quality system ISO 17025 for laboratories.
In January 2014 the Narva Power Plants were awarded two certificates – a quality management systems certificate under the international ISO 9001:2008 standard and a health and safety system management certificate under the OHSAS 18001:2007 standard.
In 2008, Narva Power Plants completed an important environmental project by closing the second ash field of the Balti power plant. Part of the former ash field has been restructured as a landfill for industrial waste, while the rest of the area, a total of 318.4 hectares, has been re-planted with vegetation and will be the site of a wind park in future. This project has been supported by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union.
