Social responsibility

Our activities to promote local life

We want our activities to be in harmony with the promotion of local life

In all our activities, we take into account customers, employees and other stakeholders, certainly the natural and human environment.

As responsible corporation, we focus on issues that are important to our stakeholders and enable us to develop energy together.

Two areas we focus on

Education and innovation

Our goal is to raise the interest of young people in the field of energy and to contribute to the widespread of energy knowledge. Society and Eesti Energia need a real scientific world view and innovative thinking.

Supported projects

Community

Our main production units and over 70% of the staff are located in Ida-Viru County. The welfare of the region is therefore a matter of concern to us. We have supported initiatives and activities that are important for the local community and improve the life of the people in the region.

Supported projects

Narva Energy Run - the biggest health sport event in Ida-Virumaa

Narva Energy Run is the biggest health sport event in Ida-Virumaa. The event brings about 5,000 sports fans to the area every year. The sporting day has benefited the locals as well as people all over Estonia and beyond.

In Energy Run, you can run or walk shorter distances or participate in a half marathon. In addition, there are always activities for children at the event.

During the Narva Energy Run, Estonian champions have been determined every year for 21 km.

Health trails - we promote and take care of the health of our people

Movement is the key to success! Estonian residents can enjoy free health sports throughout the year. In cooperation with Merko Ehitus and Swedbank, we have been working for over 10 years to ensure that health trails are in good condition, maintained and illuminated. As a result of our joint work, there are over 100 health trails in Estonia.

We have brought some health trails indoors, which also allows office workers to exercise actively. We want to set an example with that for other companies. In Eesti Energia headquarters alone, there are almost 500 people working with computer every day. For several years in a row, we have been encouraging them to use stairs instead of lifts and creating opportunities for various sporting activities. During the last health sports action, Eesti Energia´s employees walked over 50,000 stairs and 15,000 kilometres in one month.

New life for former industrial estate in Aidu

Areas where we stop our activities, we clean up after ourselves and give it back to local people and nature in the best possible way. Thus, the former oil shale quarry in Aidu has gained a new life. We helped to build an old quarry draft pit, which became the first step in building a future world-class water sports centre. Aidu's unique natural environment already attracts many people.

Over 4 million trees have been planted in Aidu quarry
The forest areas have been reintroduced by wildlife
The 169 ha of arable land is actively used
A total of more than 30 km of canals have been formed

We support educational projects in the field of energy

We hope that young people will engage their future with energy field. To stimulate and deepen their interest, we support research centres closely linked to the field and cooperate with schools and universities.

For years, we have worked with the Estonian Mining Museum and the Energy Discovery Centre to enable children and young people to learn more about energy and the oil shale industry through topic centres.

Through the Insenergia Fund, we support initiatives to promote science and engineering. We also organise school trips to our manufacturing companies every year for young people and provide scholarships to future professionals in the field.
